How to model neutron‑induced DNA damage with molecularDNA?

Please fill out the following information to help in answering your question, and also see tips for posting code snippets. If you don’t provide this information it will take more time to help with your problem!

Geant4 Version: 11.3.1
Operating System: Ubuntu 22.04
Compiler/Version: GCC 11.4.0
_CMake Version:_3.22.1

Dear Geant4‑DNA developers and colleagues,

I’m running Geant4 11.3 with the molecularDNA example. It already gives me good DNA‑damage results for protons and α‑particles, but now I need to study neutrons.

  1. Direct option – Is there any built‑in way for molecularDNA (or another Geant4‑DNA example) to transport neutrons and score the DNA damage made by their secondary charged particles?
  2. Work‑around – If not, what is the simplest common method?

A short macro, code snippet, or paper link would help a lot.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe @ngoc can answer here?

Dear,
Up to now, this example cannot simulate neutron particle. However, you can comply this example with another Geant4 example using neutrons.

@ngoc Many thanks for the guidance.

Could you please let me know which Geant4 example you recommend for neutron transport that can be coupled with molecularDNA?

In addition, could you briefly outline the simulation workflow you have in mind—or point me to any papers or notes that describe that workflow?

Thank you again!

you maybe try any example (hadronic) with BIC_AllHP physicslist. Then, maybe create a phase space ?
