I raised similar concern recently. I was told to use the ‘pick’ option and that worked for me. Is this of help?
Another thing I usually do, Is I uncheck the outer volumes in visualization window (or may be set the visibility/transparency in DetectorConstruction.cc) which helps me understand the inner components’ relative placement.
