I am new to geant4 and have been doing tutorial to learn the basic. I am interested in Rutherford scattering and started by doing the Rutherford experiment scattering of alpha particle on gold: 5.4 MeV alpha particle onto gold foil with array of Silicon diode in a circle.

I got the correct angle distribution, however i don’t any energy dependance with the scattering angle.
I try with different physicslist (Em_opt2 and 4 Livermore and Penelope) but none of them seems to reproduce the energy dependance. The energy loss in the gold foil is also consistent with the expected one at zero degree angle.

I am using SD for the silicon diode for the energy deposition, and i also have try using scoring volume with no difference.

I am doing something wrong?

Rutherford Scattering is an elastic scattering process. Other than a very small nuclear recoil or extreme angles (i.e. near 90 degrees where you lose more energy in the foil), the kinetic energy of the alpha particle will be nearly unchanged.

But when doing SRIM/TRIM calculation you have such dependance, at 45deg (the angle i am interesting in) the energy shift should be around 100 keV but i don’t see it.

I found the solution, Single scattering model reproduce this dependance but not mutliscattering one.
