Simulating 40 GeV/c π⁻ + C interactions in Geant4

Hello everyone,

I would like to simulate the interaction of a negative pion (π⁻) with a carbon target (π⁻ + C) at a momentum of 40 GeV/c using Geant4.

Could you please advise whether Geant4 can reliably simulate this type of pion–carbon interaction at 40 GeV/c?

I would also like to know:

  1. Which Physics List or hadronic physics model would be appropriate for this simulation?
  2. Is there any recommended model for pion–nucleus interactions at this energy?
  3. What is the applicable energy or momentum range of the recommended model?

I am particularly interested in simulating the interaction products and studying the resulting particle distributions.

Any advice or example would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,

The two hadronic string models of Geant4, FTF (Fritiof) and QGS (Quark Gluon String) could be used.

I recommend using the physics list FTFP_BERT for using the FTF string model, and the physics list QGSP_BERT for using the QGS string model.
